I envy you Laurie and I wish could detatch myself from it all but I HATE to see injustice; favouritism; back-stabbing etc. It makes my blood boil, even when it has nothing directly to do with me. There seems to be far too many parasitical ppl within DH's management and fanbase that are just out for what they can get or for how close they can get to him and it makes me sick. I'm tired of seeing the same ppl treating others with distain and disregard and basically lording it over everyone just b/c they happen to have a few tenuous connections. They are apparently generous with their 'treats' but, my God! do they expect ppl to be obsequious towards them for evermore or what?!

Hey Terry [img]smile.gif[/img] I understand what you are saying. There are definitely times when I see what you are referring to; and I see it far more times than I would like to. But speaking from my personal experiences, and once being part of a very chastized group of people and to this day still having people assume because I am friends with certain people I must have an "In" somehow... I can honestly say that some times, what appears to be, just isn't the case. But do you think I can convince people of that? No. And I gave up trying because whomever thinks that about me, has already developed their perceptions and no amount of talk on my part is going to sway them. They are wrong, but they believe they are right, and I accept that that is the way it is.

I am not saying that in every case there isn't backstabbing, injustice, favoritism etc.. etc... I'm just saying that sometimes it is not as big as it seems. And sometimes we contribute to it because one thing happens (or MANY things happen) and then we start to think that that is the "norm" and that that always happens.

Again, I'm not saying that it doesn't, because I know damn well it does.

Anyway... I guess I get on some people's nerves because yeah, I try to see more positive in my personal fan experience. Darren is a very important person in my life. I'm not ashamed to admit that. No, I don't know him and I will never know him. But he has given me a gift through his music and through the person he is, and I am very very grateful for that connection.

You definitely don't get on my nerves in fact I love your posts, they always inspire me to look further and provide a much needed balance in this sometimes crazy DH world! It would be an honour to be part of your street team Laurie [img]smile.gif[/img]

Also feels DH music is a gift in her life and yes that is positive but like Terry and Michelle the injustice of certain issues just makes me feel sad and disappointed at the same time as feeling happy about the good things.

Having read all these posts I just wanted to say how I feel about it all, if I misquote someone I apologise in advance.
I love Darren's music and I like reading Dzine and watching clips of him performing etc, however I don't think I know him or even that he is part of my life as such. This board and to a certain extent the Dzine board are part of my life, I like reading 'some ' posts and replying occaisionally over there, frequently more over here [img]smile.gif[/img] I do feel similar to Terry that some people like to give the impression that they are on the inside they may well be,I also think they like the fact that it appears that way! I do know that a few years ago during a bad time I felt his music helped me, more of a distraction than anything deeper. And I do find now when I have problems I turn to his music. No other singer/songwriter has that effect so there must be something in it. anyway I can't be a 'squealing' fan it's not in my nature and I'm too old (I like to think too dignified too, but when you meet me Terry & Janie you will know that isn't true lol)I also like how he looks - most of the time, and won't deny that is part of the appeal - to pretend otherwise would be hypocritical. anyway to finish - Laurina, I prefer your approach to it all than the other St team. I am looking forward to the new CD but have lost a bit of enthusiasm for the Dzine board, some of whom I find a teeny bit off balance.

Barb... thank you for saying that. I really do cherish the people on the Street Team, just as I cherish all of my friend, because they are my friends. We are all friends there. It's not "my" street team ... it is everyone's. And the beauty of it is that we talk about absolutely everything on there, not just Darren. We have everything from people who write reviews on cd's and share them with the team, to people who talk about their family, to people who drool at Darren in suits, to people who talk non-stop about Austin Powers lol; and it is all good [img]smile.gif[/img] It's our fan "home" and it is a welcoming place. I would love to comment more on the injustices you are experiencing, but I know that sometimes discussing specific occurances is not easy, and not easy to do publicly. If you need to chat, you know where I am.
